Ok, cool! What exact version of Tomcat 5.5 are you using though? A few versions of Tomcat 5.5 (notably 5.5.24 and 5.5.25, possibly also still with newer versions) did have a bug in their JAAS module which was blocking for Jetspeed (and thereby Hippo Portal too).
